And here, Lyubimets is in the south- eastern corner of Bulgarian, Turkish and Greek borders . Here Lyubimets is , huddled in the Rhodope folds, hugged in the mountain of Sakar along the side the blue waters of the Maritsa river. The first records of the settlement date back to the 1573. It goes by the name of Hebibchevo, which according to the legend comes from the name of Hebib aga who owned the lands. In 1906 the village was given a new name Lyubimets . In 1969 Lyubimets was proclaimed a town.
One of them is Gluhite kamani religious complex created by the Thracians several thousands of years ago. The rock complex consists of some monolithic blocks with a height of over 30m. Hundreds of trapezium- shaped niches were cut out on them. There are 2 rock tombs and a religions altar on top of the rock, as well. 33 steps cut out in the rock lead to the top. The whole complex was surrounded by a fortress wall which foundations can be seen nowadays. The complex itself deserves the 1st place in “The wonders of Bulgaria”. It is a unique place , indeed . The archaeologist Georgi Nehrizov states this place will surprise and enchant us from now on. In a few years only Gluhite kamani complex will become an emblem of Lyubimets municipality and will be one of the tourist brands in Bulgaria. People who looks back to its past is a wise people. Monuments are the eternal symbol of heroism and memory of known and unknown warriours , devoted their lives to the Motherland.
The land of Lyubimets has a century – old history. It bears not only the signs of a rich historical heritage but it is blessed, fruitful and generous, as well. The land has been the greatest wealth for people here for a long time. That is why farming is the main occupation here. Grain – growing is a basic branch because of the favorable conditions for growing wheat, barley and corn. The high summer temperatures and the plenty of sunshine here are favorable for growing of different kinds of fruits . The other significant point is the presence of the native and foreign markets. Apples, plums, peaches, pears, apricots and almonds are very common in the lands of Lyubimets. The sunflower is the second important crop after the wheat but over the past years sunflower growing has been increasing. Now let’s go to the fields along the banks of the Maritsa river where vegetables and fruits are grown. Nowhere else but in Lyubimets you will taste the most delicious watermelons. The grapes is so sweet here and the wine so aromatic. Climatic conditions and the land itself are favourable for early-vegetable growing. During the last years the number of the green houses for growing tomatoes and cucumbers is increasing rapidly. The most predominant vegetables and fruits are: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, cabbage, onions, potatoes, watermelons, melons. Growing grapes and producing wine dates back to the ancient times. The oldest European vine-growing originates along the Maritsa river-valley . Since then, over the centuries grapes and wine have gone along with people living here. In the municipality there are favorable conditions for growing high quality sorts such as Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Blanc suvinyon,
Papas Olio Company was founded in 1994 and now it is the biggest producer of the cooking oil. The mill in Lyubimets was built in 1951. It is property of Hlebna promishlenost LTD Harmanli Company. The company itself made a lot of innovations. Because of that the productiveness went up. In the territory of the mill there is a feed mill offering high-quality forage. There are over 50 workers producing the best flour and other wheat products with the Logo of Lyubimets. The permanent tests control the produce quality.
The production of the building materials is presented in the plant for marble works. It produces stone-facing materials, marble, facing plates flooring.
Favorite Machineks LTD a private company founded in 2000. It produces word- processing machines and equipment. The main clients of the Favorite Machinex are those of Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Russia and other European countries.
Specialized hospital for physiotherapy and rehabilitation was established in 2010. It occupies an important place in the health care of Haskovo district. Complex treatment such as Pomorie lixivium treatment, peat mud application, a great variety of physiotherapy procedures, kinesitherapy and rehabilitation, as well as inhalation and laser therapy are provided.
The Church of Holy Virgin was built between1927-1929. It was designed in the Neo-Byzantine tradition with the idea of creating of the new modern art synthesis strongly connected with the Renaissance tradition.
The day nurseries Rai 1 and Rai 2 are the childrens’ paradise for joy, knowledge and sports. Attention skills and talents of each child is encouraged.
Zahari Stoyanov Primary School is the first secular school in Lyubimets. More than 120 years old, its doors are wildly opened for children just to provide a qualified education at the moment. 8 classes and 1 preparatory group are studying here.
Hristo Botev Primary School is a central school where children not only from the town but from the surrounding villages study here. Teachers use modern high technologies. The school is part of the Junior Achievement Programme . In 2010-2012 school year, the school became a partner of Europe and Africa in the new millennium project. Students of the 2nd grade study on the Jump Math system. This is a pilot education which provides easy knowledge mastering. In 2014 the school gained another project with Turkey.
Zhelyasko Terpeshev High School is the biggest school in the municipality. 500 students study in 15 general and 4 professional classes. A team of highly – qualified teachers encourage and support their students. This stronghold of letters is of a great respect among the population. School graduates make famous it in different fields of the public life. Lyubimets is a small beautiful, border town with a century- old history. Here, at this crossroad, a lot of human fortunes have been interlaced. People of Lyubimets love their native town. They bear one more love deep in their hearts: love for their Cultural Centre. The Cultural Centre with its 130 year-old history is a real hearth of zealous patriotism and high moral virtues. That is why it was named Bratolyubie that means brother’s love. It inherits the loving sparkle of the each Bulgarian for necessity of culture and education. The past and the future meet here. For the people of Lyubimets the Cultural Centre is a memory, a Spiritual Bridge over which generations after generations will go over. We are walking along the streets of Lyubimets singing “Ode to joy”. We are here, in our town, a town with the past, present and future.
